Correspondence, much of it from U.S. politicians, dating from 1808 to 1864; posters from 1918 urging U.S. citizens to purchase bonds and War Savings Stamps; and a bound volume of telegrams chiefly concerning ship movements and other military matters during the Civil War. Correspondents include Gabriel Duval of the Treasury, Horace Maynard of Tenn., Allan A. Hall of the Treasury, Albert G. Brown of Mississippi, Edward S. Philbrook, and John J. Crittenden of Kentucky. One letter of 1864 requests that medicine be shipped to a plantation on St. Helena Island.
